Three Good, Below Slab, GPR Tests

Shallow Trench Test.

It is my understanding in talking with the DA Investigator, Joe Asbury, that Shell told the Riverside District Attorney that "they would cooperate and do whatever it takes to find the buried equipment and that Shell would take it out if found." If Shell believes that an above floor GPR test is inadequate due to concrete thickness and reinforced steel bars, Shell can easily do the test below the grade of the the concrete slab by digging a shallow trench in the back of the station. [See the green line in the shadow behind the porch]

You can see in the picture to the left that there is a quite a slope to the back that makes it easy to get below the grade of the concrete slab. The GPR unit is then run along the side of the trench and the items easily caught in the GPR test as it would only be penetrating dirt and not concrete and rebar. Getting under the slab is not a problem.

 Single Bore Hole Test

It would be extremely easy to do a single borehole test in the back of the station. If done where you see the green dot in the picture to the left, you could rotate the GPR unit left and right and catch both hydraulic lifts buried under the concrete slab. Given the slope, the hole would only have to be few feet deep.

Cross Hole Survey

The front hole for the cross hole survey could go here, out of the way of traffic in and out of the store. No one can park in this area anyway. Even a cross hole survey would not interrupt any sales at the location.

Does anyone really think Shell is incapable of digging a shallow trench or one or two holes?
